TLDR: Make sure you use Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 and NOT Mini Display to USB-C, allow the Desktop Video Setup app under the General tab in your Privacy and Security in System Preferences, and if the DVS app still does not detect your device and you are running OSX Catalina, try rolling back to an older version of the application (v. 11.4.1 and that solved my issue, now DVS detects the device.

Searching Google, Reddit, Youtube and Blackmagic's forums a common misstep Mac users face is allowing the application access to your OS under the General tab in Privacy & Security in System Preferences, only that was never the case for me and I never had to enable that/didn't even see that pop up in my security preferences. Only now the DVS app still was not detecting the device. So now that I knew that, I purchased the necessary cable and adapter, plugged them all in and I finally get the LED screen to light up on the mini recorder. (Actually before I thought it was a cable issue I thought the problem was with the device itself, since it was used, so I purchased a brand new one and could then have an A/B comparison between the two devices) Solution: I need to use Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 USB-C Issue: no LED to the mini recorder, no device detected on the Desktop Video Setup app I thought "Great! I'll just plug this into a mini displayport to USB-C to my MBP." 11.6 not detecting my Ultrastudio Mini Recorder (Running OSX 10.15.5 Catalina).īefore quarantine, a good friend of mine gifted me a BM Ultrastudio Mini Recorder so I could start live streaming my music production. I hope this finds you all well, I wanted to write in a solution I found for an issue I had been dealing with all weekend regarding the Blackmagic Desktop Video Setup v.
